The Book of Eli review

January 22nd, 2010 No comments

What I like most about Denzel Washington is that you can watch any movie with him – each and every movie with Denzel Washington is awesome! The book of Eli is not an
exception of course.

the book of eli denzel washington review

Some 30 years ago there was some kind of a war or apocalypses that caused human race back to the stone age. Of course there are several cars and guns out there but that does not prevent humans from living in a getto or scrapyard. Some people eat others – cannibalism considered to be a normal practice.

Eli (Denzel Washington) is a lonely man walking through the post-apocalyptic world. In  the first several scenes it’s shown that Eli is really a good hunter – he hunted cat using an bow and arrow, than we managed to fight the desert robbers and recognize and escape the trap. Finally he came to the city. Main reason – he want to charge his iPod mp3 player. Yeah that’s true :) There are some advertising there – iPod, KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and GMC. While he waits for the electrician to charge his music device he visits public bar that belongs to the some city boss called “Carnegie”. Carnegie is looking for good men that can read and fight. His goal is to find some mystic book. Mr. Eli found himself in a bar pickle – of course he managed to be the winner but that brought Carnegie’s attention on him. He was invited to be the guest in Carnegie’s house and think about the offer of working for him. At night Eli meets some young girl called Solara. He tells some excerpts from the book he is carrying. This is the book that Carnegie wants! The Holy Bible. The very last Bible on Earth!

In the morning Eli leaves, Solara leaves with him. In some time he’s followed by Carnegie band and caught. The Bible is finally in Carnegie’s hands! But Eli continues his journey to the West. Why? The holly spirit told him to. He was carrying the Bible for 30 years and he remembers each and every word of the book. His journey ends in San-Francisco’s Alcatraz where the survivors have made some kind of museum or library of the survived books and knowledge. There is a Torah, Koran but no Bible. Eli tells each line of every verse of the Bible and finally it’s completed. His mission on Earth is over and Solara with the new edition of the Bible is leaving Alcatraz for home. What about Carnegie? The Bible Eli was carrying was edition for the blind. He cannot read that. So sometimes it happen that what you think is close enough is in reality much far than million miles away.

Denzel Washington again showed us really good actor skills. The visual effects of post apocalyptic wold is really nice. However for some feelings that there is a little of action. Well, that’s not like that in reality. You could feel like that because movie is 2 hours long!

Would I recommend to watch “The Book of Eli”? Definitely!!!
